Individual Development Plans (IDPs) are the way that many companies formalize their employees’ professional development. Dan McCarthy of the Great Leadership blog posed this question recently to his blogger community:

“We all know that individual development plans (IDPs) need to be tailored for each leader. However – if you had to recommend ONE THING that every leader should have in their in IDP, what would it be?

He received twenty-eight interesting and varied responses, from book suggestions to deeper listening, to improving ethics. It’s all great stuff in 28 Recommendations for Your Leadership Individual Development Plan. Go check it out!

Also – if you are a consistent reader of Dan’s Leadership Development Carnival, let Dan know – do you like this format of Dan asking a question then crowdsourcing responses from fellow leadership bloggers? Jot a note to Dan in the “comments” section of his blog.
