Today, this post is for women who want to learn how to talk about their career accomplishments without being too humble or overly aggressive. Or, it’s for men who have career-oriented women in their lives with whom they can share this post.
My colleague Dana Theus of InPower Coaching recently asked this question of women who want to advance their career:
Are you hiding your best, most genuine and meaningful accomplishments – behind timidity or bravado?
Some of us don’t speak up because we were taught not to brag on ourselves. Others have learned the hard way that “the squeaky wheel get the grease” when it comes to getting our good work noticed at the office. But, all that promoting can seem self-serving.
It’s difficult to find the sweet spot between humility and self- promotion. Yet it’s vital to your career success.
Dana can help us get the balance right. She’s invested significant energy and time in learning about women in the workplace and how they can bring their whole selves to work, without compromising their career goals.
I first met Dana when she introduced me to one of my all-time favorite business books- The Primes: How Any Group Can Solve Any Problem.
Since that time, Dana and I have deepened our connection and I’ve become an affiliate for her InPower Coaching and InPower Women programs. I admire Dana’s commitment to helping women be the best that they can, no matter what their career aspirations.
Dana is hosting a free webinar called Self-Promotion Techniques for Professional Women (Without Bragging!) on Wednesday, October 17th, at 12:00 (noon) eastern time.
During this call, Dana will address how important it is to promote yourself, and how to do it naturally and easily. Register here!
I’m signed up – will you join me?
Disclosure: As an InPower Women affiliate, if you sign up for any of Dana’s paid programs, I may receive a commission. Know this – I will only promote people and products that I believe in, and Dana’s work definitely fits into that category.
